Student work

The Lyme School First grade is full of storytellers and writers!

We have been focusing on writing small moment stories about our lives. A small moment story is a short story where we 'zoom in' and illustrate, write and share all the details of that small moment.

We begin our writing by sharing our ideas and then telling the story as we turn the pages of a blank booklet. Next, we make a quick sketch on each page to help us plan out our story. After students have their plan they get right to work writing and illustrating their small moment.

We have been using mentor texts to explore the ways that published authors plan, sequence, make their story engaging and share details about their small moment.

The first grade has been very engaged in bringing their stories to life through using speech bubbles, detailed illustrations, thought bubbles and emotion in their small moment stories.

Happy writing!
