The Cafeteria Murals

This Fall, the Community Art Middle School Elective has been working on completing the Cafeteria Murals. The Murals began in the Spring of 2019 as an Artist in Residence (AIR) project. AIR projects are school-wide initiatives in which all students work with an artist (much gratitude to the PTO for their ongoing support of this program). In 2019, students created a "Night" wall (luna moth and firefly) and a "Day" wall (monarch butterfly and bee). The original plan was to paint silhouettes of grasses and wildflowers on the lower part of the murals. I was so happy to be able to pick up this project this Fall with a group of dedicated students. They have designed, sketched, discussed symbolism, had a few wild (awesome) ideas about a giant glittery disco moon,  drew on walls, erased, redrew (repeat), and taped the final drawings. We are due to paint next week!

(I would also like to give a shout out to Mr. Fillian for his excellent guidance).
