6th Grade Science

Sixth grade scientists are exploring the principles of forces and motion through a series of mini-investigations and lab stations.  Some of these include calculating the speed and acceleration of objects rolling down ramps at various heights or comparing what type of ball can roll down a ramp the fastest.  In other activities, students are comparing the speed of falling objects and describing what happens when small objects with different masses collide.  Starting with the data and observations from these activities, students are building their knowledge of Newton's Laws along the way in order to construct explanations for what they have observed.   We've had a few runaway tennis balls and balloons along the way, but it's been a fun start to our "serious" lab work with this enthusiastic group!
