6th grade Bio-Poems and masks

In 6th grade Humanities, students are working on the essential questions:

What makes us who we are?

What factors contribute to defining our identity?

Can one change their identity?

The students made an identity chart, wrote a Bio-Poem, and then created masks that represented themselves. From there we moved away from the study of individuals, to the study of groups and communities. The 6th grade is currently reading The Giver by Lois Lowry and reflecting back on the essential questions of identity, while also reflecting on the importance of memory, individuality, and choice.
