Elite Fitness Elective

Each Wednesday during the first trimester, a dedicated group of seventh and eighth graders have met to take part in the elite fitness elective.  This elective is not for the faint of heart!!  Students are asked to run a mile, and then take part in a fitness routine that encompasses all the components of fitness: cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility.  Hand weights between 8-25 pounds have been introduced and utilized as students move through a circuit training routine that includes squats, bench press, shoulder press, tricep extension,  and bicep curls.  In addition, students use the pull up bar, do wall sits, plank holds, and burpees.

These routines last for nearly 75 minutes.  Students have consistently been focused on working hard  and have taken  initiative for their personal fitness and overall well being.  This group has much to be proud of-they are strong and determined, a great combination for sure!!!
