Second Grade Book Clubs

The second grade has been working on their independence and group work skills through Book Clubs in Language Arts. Meeting two or three times a week, each Book Club session begins with the choosing of a group leader.

This leader keeps the group on task and organized in their group discussions. Book Clubs have worked on several reading comprehension skills including: making a prediction, understanding the setting, story sequence, characters and conflict. Students have also discussed interesting words and worked to expand their vocabulary utilizing textual evidence.

After practicing these skills for several weeks, student have now moved on to picking their own literature and running their own meetings. Independent and group work skills are getting us ready to be strong and engaged readers in third grade!
