5th Graders Explore Populations: Oh, Deer!

This month, fifth graders have been learning about ecosystems.  For the last two weeks, we are learning why it is important to study populations within these systems, how we study populations, and what factors can change populations.

In further exploration, we came across the idea of carrying capacity, meaning the number of organisms an ecosystem can support.  This week, we asked how the availability of resources can impact carrying capacity.  Using active simulations, like the game, "Oh Deer!",  featured here, has allowed us to collect and analyze population data over time.
