Ms. Stanton

This is my very first year at the Lyme School as the Student Life Coordinator/School Counselor. I currently live in Lyme with my husband, Kevin and we both LOVE the outdoors. When I am not at school, you can probably find me biking, hiking, running, nordic skiing, and/or relaxing in my hammock somewhere. I also love to cook and bake and spend time with my family, especially my six nieces and nephews. I am so excited to be learning, working, and playing with staff and students at this amazing school! Hope you all have a great year!

Here is a little about what we will do during my time with students: Taking a developmental approach, the Lyme School’s comprehensive school counseling program is for all students, Kindergarten through 8th grade. The program’s curriculum is developmentally appropriate, it is an integrated part of the educational process, it involves all educators, and most importantly, it is in place to help students learn and play more effectively. For more targeted support, I will also be available to provide individual and group counseling per teacher and parent collaboration/permission.

I will be meeting in the classroom with grades K-5th weekly and with all middle school students for units throughout the year during “Stanton Time”. Also for middle school students, Mrs. Damren (physical education/health) and I will be team-teaching a 6-8 week program focussing on adolescent health. My goals for all classroom lessons are that I am providing students with relevant and engaging material and that we are maintaining a positive culture and community that will expand outside of the classroom.

Some of the topics that the Lyme School staff and I will be addressing and exploring with students will be:

  • Respecting and celebrating differences
  • Developing positive self-concept (Growth Mindset)
  • Understanding attitudes, feelings, and behavior
  • Decision-making and problem-solving
  • Being a digital citizen and personal safety
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Conflict Resolution/friendship
  • School success skills/goal-setting
  • Exploring the world of work and post-secondary education

I am looking forward to a great year of learning and growing with your student(s)! If you have any questions or input concerning the school counseling program, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am here to listen and support students and their families the best that I can.
