MS art

6s may elect to take an Art Elective each quarter. The 1st quarter option was Drawing and 2nd quarter is Sculpture. During our Art/Design lab block (Day 8), we have been working on building terrain for a civilization. 6s also came to the art room this quarter for a humanities collaboration, creating masks modeled on their faces for an Identity Unit.

7s had a brief introduction to Graphic Design during 1st quarter. They created an “Elements and Principles of Art” accordion book, working to understand how we organize images to convey a message. After learning some basic editing, layering, and font pairing, 7s used pixlr to select and alter a digital image and incorporate text. As inspiration, we watched a short documentary video on the anonymous chalkboard artists who call themselves “Danger Dust”.

Drawing Elective & Painting Elective have wrapped up with the end of the 1st quarter. Please watch for a “HOMEs” (Lyme Habits of Mind) assessment coming home with report cards. I am really proud of how hard the students worked to develop new skills and the grace with which they did so. The art studio has been a place of collaboration and hard work this quarter. Artwork collected from these electives hangs outside of the art room and in the hallway by the nurse’s office. Please stop by and check it out!
