About LYME SCHOOL ART STUDIO
“The real product of art education is not the works of art, but the child.” -Lois Hetland
The art curriculum is a blend of building skills with art materials and media, connecting to art through history and culture, and responding and reflecting on art work in developmentally appropriate ways. I work to create a classroom culture where students are experimental, intrinsically motivated, and curious. The students work in studio centers that are organized by media (drawing, collage, painting, printmaking, sculpture, fiber arts, and ceramics). In the Art class, the student is the artist and the classroom is their studio. The goal is empowered and self-motivated students making ART that is both meaningful and skillful.
In the Lower School, Art meets 4 times in an 8 day schedule. In the Middle School, students choose from art electives that change quarterly (Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Set Design, Animation, and Mural Painting).
