I have been teaching in Lyme since the turn of the century and I love working with middle school kids! I strive to have a problem centered classroom that fosters a growth mindset where students work together as a team discussing and learning from each other. In my free time I enjoy playing strategy games and like to bring that to the students. My two children are off to college and beyond so, of course, my husband and I rescued a puppy who keeps us busy. I love to teach math because I get excited when I have a difficult problem to solve. The longer it takes, and the more times I have to shift my strategy to get there, the happier I am.
I teach math to 6th, 7th and 8th grades. We follow the common core curriculum using CPM mathematics program as our base. On a daily basis, students in CPMs Core Connections program use problem-solving strategies, questioning, investigating, analyzing critically, gathering and constructing evidence, and communicating rigorous arguments justifying their thinking. Under teacher guidance students learn in collaboration with others while sharing information, expertise, and ideas. The course helps students to develop multiple strategies to solve problems and to recognize the connections between concepts. The lessons in the course meet all of the content standards and embed the “Mathematical Practices” of the Common Core State Standards released in June 2010.
