Dangerous Weapons

The possession by any person, either openly or concealed, of dangerous weapons, such as, but not limited to, firearms, explosives, incendiaries, martial arts weapons (as defined in RSA 159:24), electronic defense weapons (as defined in RSA 159:20), clubs, billies, metallic knuckles or containers containing chemicals such as pepper gas or mace, and the use by any person of any object as a weapon, are not permitted on school property, on school vehicles, or at school-sponsored activities. Student violations of this policy will result in confiscation of the weapons, notification of parents, notification of the police, and school disciplinary action, including possible suspension or expulsion from school. Other violators shall be removed from the premises under the authority of the Principal or his/her designee, and shall be subject to prosecution under the law.

In addition, any student who is determined to have brought a firearm (as defined by 18 US 921) to school will be expelled for not less than one year (365 days). This expulsion may be modified by the Superintendent in consultation with the School Board, upon review of the specific case in accordance with other applicable law.

The School Board may authorize the possession and demonstration of firearms or other weapons for specific occasions or for instructional purposes. The prohibition of the possession of firearms shall not apply to law enforcement personnel.

The Superintendent shall establish and enforce procedures to implement this policy in compliance with RSA 193-D.
