Policy: IKE
Promotion, Retention, and Grade-Level Decisions
The decision to promote, retain, or accelerate placement of
students shall in all instances consider the individual academic
needs of each student.
The Principal, with input from general, guidance, and/or special
education staff, will make the final decision on appropriate
grade placement. When children new to the district or children
entering from home education programs register for school,
grade placement shall be determined by the Principal following
a review of the student’s records and, if appropriate,
the results of placement screening.
Incoming transfer students in grades 2-8, inclusive, will
be initially placed in accordance with the data forwarded
by the sending District. Such placement is tentative and subject
to reassignment by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
The importance of parent involvement and support in decisions
of grade placement is recognized. In matters where disagreement
exists, however, the authority to decide grade placement will
remain with the school.
Parents/guardians who disagree with the decision of the Principal
may appeal the decision to the Superintendent or his/her designee.
