Policy: BDG
School Attorney Services
The Board recognizes that the complexity of school district
operations frequently requires procurement of professional
legal services.
A decision to seek legal advice or assistance on behalf of
the school district shall normally be made only as a consequence
of formal Board direction by majority vote. Members acting
as individuals may not seek advice from the school attorney
under the policy of procurement.
In some instances, legal assistance to the district may be
considered routine and not necessitating specific Board approval
or prior vote. Even in those circumstances, the Board directs
the administration to consult with the Board Chair before
engaging legal counsel. The Board further directs the administration
to advise the Board whenever unusual types or amounts of professional
legal services may be required and to expeditiously seek either
initial or continuing authorization for such services.
