Board Officers
The officers of the School Board shall be a Chair, a Vice-Chair,
and a Secretary. The officers shall be elected at the annual
organization meeting to serve until the next annual organization
meeting or until a successor is elected. Any vacancy in any
of such offices may be filled at any meeting of the Board provided
that all members of the Board have been notified prior to the
meeting that the vacancy will be filled at such meeting. The
Superintendent is the chief executive officer and an ex-officio
member of the Board and shall be the Executive Secretary ex-officio.
CHAIR
The Chair’s role is to facilitate discussion among all members
of the Board. The Chair shall preside at all meetings, may originate
or second motions (yet customarily refrains from doing so while presiding),
and has the right to vote on all matters before the School Board.
Other duties of the Chair include but are not limited to the following:

Determine the agenda for each Board meeting, in
consultation with the Superintendent.

Sign contracts and other instruments on behalf
of the School Board, when authorized by the Board to do so.

Appoint an acting Secretary for meetings at which
the Board Secretary is absent.

Appoint committees of Board members, and appoint
committee chairs.

Select members of advisory committees, in consultation
with the Board.

Serve as ex-officio member of all Board committees.

Present to the Board at the annual organization
meeting the roster of standing and advisory committees to determine
whether continuation of those committees is necessary or desirable.

Cancel or reschedule meetings for good cause,
after consultation with Board members and the Superintendent.

Direct the Superintendent to call special meetings
and/or emergency meetings of the Board, as necessary.

Maintain communication with the Superintendent,
as needed.
VICE-CHAIR
The Vice-Chair shall have the powers and duties of the Chair
in his/her absence or for the duration of the disability, and
such other powers and duties as the School Board may from time
to time determine.
SECRETARY
The Secretary shall be responsible for Board correspondence
when directed by the Chair, and, in the absence of a designated
minutes-taker, shall maintain and publish the minutes of all
School Board meetings.
