Special School Board Meeting

Present: Mark Schiffman, Peter Glenshaw, Audrey Brown, Emily Dentzer, Kate Semple Barta, Dan Parish, Jeffrey Valence, Gordon Schnare

Chair Mark Schiffman called the meeting to order at 8:20 AM. Dr. Schnare nominated candidate Tom Harkins for the position of Spanish teacher. A motion was made by Audrey Brown to hire him. Emily Dentzer seconded the motion. The motion was carried.

Chair Mark Schiffman described the process he was using to select a Board representative for the Thetford Academy Board. He announced that he has three people who are interested. He will speak with the candidates and bring one candidate to the August 27 meeting for the Board to approve.

At 9:00 AM, Emily Dentzer made a motion to adjourn. It was seconded by Audrey Brown.

Hearing to Consider Acceptance of
Unanticipated Revenue (as required by RSA 198:20-b)

Present: Mark Schiffman, Peter Glenshaw, Audrey Brown, Emily Dentzer, Kate Semple Barta, Dan Parish, Jeffrey Valence, Gordon Schnare

Chair Mark Schiffman called the hearing to order at 8:00 AM. Principal Jeff Valence and Chair Mark Schiffman described a gift from an anonymous donor to establish a trust to support special programs at the Lyme School. The initial gift, for $250,000, will be used to initially fund a Spanish Language program in grades K-4 and eventually in grades K-8. The money available for the first year will be $70,000.

Audrey Brown made a motion to accept the donation of $70,000 from the Lyme Innovation in Learning Fund to pay for the Spanish program for the 2009-1010 school year. Emily Dentzer seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Peter Glenshaw moved to adjourn. Dan Parish seconded the motion.

The meeting adjourned at 8:19 AM.
