About me

I am thrilled to be joining the Lyme School community as an English Language Arts and Humanities teacher. Previously, I taught high school social studies in Vermont and Maine for a number of years before taking a break from the classroom to be at home with my own young children. I spent this past year at the Upper Valley Educators Institute teaching at both the Richmond Middle School and Hanover High School. I live in Norwich with my husband, three children and dog Milo. Outside of the classroom I enjoy running, skiing, reading, coaching and spending time with my family.

7th Grade ELA

7th Grade English Language Arts will be focused on the continued development of thinking, reading, writing and discourse skills. Through a number of full-class novels, including The Outsiders, Inside Out and Back Again and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, as well as literature circle and independent choice books, 7th grade will be a year full of reading, reflecting and writing. Much of our thinking and reflecting will take place in full-class and small group discussions in order to clarify and expand our thinking before writing. We will focus on the elements of strong analytical and expository writing in the 7th grade. The units of study that will guide our work this year include Community, Refugees, Global Environmental Issues, Identity, Social Justice and Poetry.

8th Grade Humanities

The 8th grade Humanities course will use the question “What does it mean to be a responsible citizen?” to direct our studies. We will look at this question through the lens of our classroom, our town, our nation, the world as a global citizen and as a digital citizen. Some of our anchor texts for this study will include Animal Farm, To Kill A Mockingbird, Night and the Omnivore’s Dilemma, as well as student choice and literature circle books. A focus for the year will be on writing, particularly argumentative and expository essays. Additionally, we will focus on civil discourse and oral communication skills as we discuss and debate challenging topics. Our year will culminate with each student reciting their own ‘This I Believe Essay’ in the spring.
