7th Grade Reading and discussing novel

Students in the 7th grade humanities have just begun to read The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, along with learning the geography of Africa. As the students are reading the book, they are having spiderweb discussions and are thinking about the essential questions: To what extent can we elevate the lives of others in our family and in our community? How can education influence our ability to transform ourselves and the world in which we live? How can developing such qualities as resilience and resourcefulness enhance our ability to respond to challenges in our community and world? From there, students will be asked to identify a challenge in their community that they would like to solve and create a solution or plan to present to the class.
