This year, Lower School students (Kindergarten-Fifth Grade) meet once a week for 50 minutes. Middle School students are offered a range of choices to engage their interests. Art is offered through Academic Club periods (2 blocks weekly that meet for 30 minutes each) and Electives (meeting for fifteen 80 minute blocks per quarter). First Quarter Electives are Photography (M/F) and Painting(Tu/F).
Intro to Photography
In this course, we will explore the magical, artistic, and amazing world of photography. The first half of the course will be spent exploring the basic principles of darkroom photography. We will build a camera obscura, some pinhole cameras, and discover black and white film. In the second half of the course, we will embrace modern times and work digitally. We will explore photographic themes and look at composition.
Intro to Painting
This course is an introduction to painting with acrylics. We will review basic painting practices and color theory. We will explore a variety of paint techniques, mediums, and surfaces (ie stretching and painting on canvas).
